The pigments in foods and drinks, such as coffee and spaghetti sauce, can erode or wear away the enamel. These extrinsic or surface stains are generally easier to remove than intrinsic or internal discoloration. As we age, enamel thins. The darker dentin layer of the tooth is exposed. Furthermore, the pigments in staining foods may be absorbed by the dentin.

Professional products are generally peroxide based. They can break up even stubborn stains. Since treatment is administered or overseen by a dentist, every aspect of the process can be tailored exactly to your needs.

Furthermore, we can get results that are many times lighter than the natural shade of your teeth. The term “bleaching” actually refers to lightening teeth beyond their natural color. “Whitening” refers to restoring natural tooth color to its original shade before staining foods and other factors yellowed or otherwise darkened the teeth.

Real Patients, Real Results

A whiter smile in 1, 2, 3 steps …

We assure safety throughout each step of treatment. So, all whitening or bleaching procedures start with evaluating your teeth and gums. We must resolve existing oral problems, such as tooth decay and gum disease, first. Do you already have fillings and other dental restorations? If you want to whiten your teeth, we will discuss options for treatment with you. Dental work does not respond to the ingredients in whitening or bleaching gels.

Professional whitening generally involves using either a chairside, in-office process for instant results or whitening from the convenience of home with custom trays. The office process starts with your dentist protecting the gums and the rest of your mouth with a covering or dental dam. This step also isolates the teeth for even application. The bleaching gel is expertly applied, and the whitening process may be accelerated with a light-based device. Your teeth can be dramatically whiter in a single visit!

Home whitening starts by taking impressions of your mouth. These molds are used to create your custom whitening trays. You will fill the trays with gel and then wear them as directed. After around two weeks of daily wear, your teeth will be whiter. This process is also fast but gets results gradually. Both options minimize the risks associated with one-size-fits-all kits and other OTC products that claim to whiten teeth.
