Braces and orthodontics in Chesterland, OH straighten teeth discreetly and effectively

Uneven spacing. Crowding. Underbite. Overjet. Crossbite. Overbite. Patients with these and other conditions related to how teeth are positioned can benefit from an array of braces and orthodontics options at the office of Dr. Brianne (“Dr. Bri”) Fratantonio and her friendly, skilled team at Chesterland Family Dental Care.

Braces

Braces have been the traditional answer to crowded, crooked teeth and issues with how the upper and lower teeth come together when biting down. They are generally a system of metal wires threaded through stainless steel brackets attached to teeth with tiny rubber bands (“O-rings”). These components apply consistent pressure on the teeth to gradually reposition them. Modern braces are generally smaller, sleeker, and do not scream, “metal-mouth!” when you see them. Some patients may choose tooth-colored brackets that blend in with the surrounding teeth.

For treatment to progress, conventional braces must be precisely adjusted by your dentist or orthodontist. Depending on your needs, these visits usually occur every six to 10 weeks. We can show you ways to properly brush and floss around brackets and wires because braces are “fixed” and can only be removed by your dental provider.

Clear teeth aligners

Chesterland Family Dental Care is pleased to also offer Invisalign. Instead of fixed braces, Invisalign repositions teeth gradually with a series of clear, nearly invisible, and smooth thermoplastic aligner trays. These trays, which resemble a nightguard, are also removable. They slip over your teeth comfortably. When worn as directed by your dentist, the aligners place gentle forces on the teeth to move them into proper alignment. Around every two weeks, you will wear the next set of aligners in the series. Each aligner corresponds with a different step of treatment. So, it is important to wear them in the correct order. Also, only remove the aligners when eating, brushing, and flossing.

Retainers

After “active” orthodontic treatment is complete, it is critical to wear retainers consistently and as directed. These aligner-like appliances prevent teeth from shifting back into their pre-treatment positions, a condition known as “orthodontic relapse.”This is only a partial list of the options available to straighten teeth at our sophisticated Chesterland, OH office; for instance, children may benefit from early intervention with specialized functional appliances and exercises. Regardless of your age, you deserve to have a healthy, attractive smile that exudes confidence.
